It’s truly a wonder I didn’t lose any data in my old NAS setup with the raspberry pi. The main hard drive was an unjournaled ExFat partition being powered over USB, on a device known for data corruption on improper shutdowns.
I’ve Frankensteined together some old components to do this setup justice, and as of writing I have ZFS running on two 8TB drives in RAID-0. Since these are shucked WD EasyStores white labels, the 3.3v reset pin had to be removed in order for them to spin up (otherwise they’re stuck in and endless reset loop when given power).
The i3 performs much better with Plex as well.
